Baby in a Basket

Baby in a Basket

Welcome to this week of crafts, and interactive learning! This week we are focusing on the story of Baby Moses in a Basket

Books of the Bible Focus of the Week: Exodus 2

"Then Pharaoh’s daughter went down to the Nile to bathe, and her attendants were walking along the riverbank. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her female slave to get it. She opened it and saw the baby. He was crying, and she felt sorry for him. “This is one of the Hebrew babies,” she said."

Key Points of this weeks Bible Story of Moses

1. Danger in Egypt: Pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt, was fearful of the growing number of Israelites, so he ordered all Hebrew baby boys to be thrown into the Nile.

2. Moses’s Birth: Moses was born to a Hebrew family and, in order to protect him, his mother hid him for three months.

3. The Basket in the Nile: Unable to hide him any longer, Moses’s mother placed him in a basket and set it in the Nile River, trusting God to protect her child.

4. Pharaoh’s Daughter Finds Moses: Pharaoh’s daughter discovered the basket, felt compassion, and decided to adopt Moses as her son.

5. God’s Plan Unfolds: God had a special plan for Moses, protecting him even from birth and preparing him for his future role as a leader of the Israelites.

Parental Tips for this week:

1. Talk About Trusting God’s Protection: Share how Moses’s family trusted God even in difficult times, and encourage children to remember that God watches over them, too.

Question: “How do you think Moses’s mother felt when she placed him in the basket? How do you think God helped her feel brave?”

2. Explore God’s Care for Everyone: Discuss how God uses people around us to help care for us, like Pharaoh’s daughter who protected baby Moses.

Question: “Who has God placed in our life to help take care of us and keep us safe?”

3. Explain That God Has Plans for Everyone: Emphasize that just as God had a special plan for Moses, He has a unique plan for each of us.

Question: “What do you think it means that God has a special plan for everyone, even for us?”

4. Highlight Compassion and Kindness: Talk about how Pharaoh’s daughter showed compassion by rescuing Moses, and encourage children to look for ways to show kindness to others.

Question: “How do you feel when you show kindness? How can we be kind to others?”

5. Introduce the Concept of Courage: Explain how Moses’s mother and sister were courageous in their actions, and remind children that God can give them courage when they need it.

Question: “When do you need courage? How do you think God helps us feel brave?”
