Abraham Tested

Abraham Tested

Welcome to this week of crafts, and interactive learning! This week we are focusing on the story of Abraham being Tested.

Books of the Bible Focus of the WeekGenesis 22

Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.

Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac.

But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!”

“Here I am,” he replied.

12 “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.”

13 Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram[a] caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.

Key Points of this weeks Bible Story of Abraham Tested

1. God’s Command: God tested Abraham’s faith by asking him to sacrifice his son, Isaac, on the mountain.

2. Abraham’s Obedience: Without hesitation, Abraham obeyed God and took Isaac to the place where the sacrifice was to happen.

3. Isaac’s Trust: Isaac trusted his father even though he didn’t fully understand the situation.

4. God’s Provision: At the last moment, God provided a ram for the sacrifice, showing that He never intended for Isaac to be harmed.

5. Faith and Trust in God: Abraham’s faith was tested, and because he trusted and obeyed God, he was blessed.

6. God’s Promise Reaffirmed: After the test, God reaffirmed His promise to make Abraham’s descendants numerous and blessed.

7. A Foreshadowing of Jesus: This story mirrors the ultimate sacrifice God would make through Jesus.

8. The Lesson of Obedience: This story teaches that even in difficult times, trusting and obeying God is important because He always provides.

Parental Tips for this week:

1. Simplify the Story:

Use age-appropriate language and focus on the themes of trust, obedience, and God’s provision. Emphasize how God never wanted Isaac to be hurt, but He wanted to test Abraham’s trust.

2. Relate to Everyday Life:

Share moments when your child might have had to trust or obey even when they didn’t fully understand. This can help them relate to how Abraham and Isaac felt.

3. Focus on God’s Faithfulness:

Highlight that God always keeps His promises and provides for us. Encourage children to remember that God will take care of them just like He provided for Abraham and Isaac.

4. Encourage Questions:

Let your child ask questions and express their thoughts about the story. Answer their questions thoughtfully and reassure them of God’s love and care.

5. Highlight the Bigger Picture:

Explain that this story foreshadows God’s love through Jesus, showing that God provided His own son as a sacrifice for us.
