Cain and Abel
Welcome to our second week of crafts, and interactive learning! This week we are focusing on the story of Adam and Eve.
Books of the Bible Focus of the Week: Genesis 4
" Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. 3 In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord. 4 And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, 5 but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast."
Key Points of this weeks Bible Story of Cain and Abel
- Cain and Abel's Offerings:
-
Cain and Abel, the sons of Adam and Eve, each brought offerings to God. Cain, a farmer, brought some of the fruits of the soil, while Abel, a shepherd, brought the fat portions of the firstborn of his flocks.
- God's Favor:
- God looked with favor on Abel and his offering because it was the best of his flock, showing his genuine love and respect for God. However, God did not look with favor on Cain’s offering, which was not given with the same heartfelt devotion.
- Cain's Anger
-
Cain became very angry and his face was downcast. God warned Cain that sin was crouching at his door and he must master it, indicating that Cain had the choice to do right.
-
The Tragic Act
-
Despite God's warning, Cain invited Abel to go out into the field, where Cain attacked and killed his brother, Abel.
- God's Confrontation
-
God asked Cain where Abel was. Cain responded, "Am I my brother's keeper?" God then revealed that He knew what Cain had done and that Abel’s blood was crying out from the ground.
- The Consequences
-
Their eyes were opened, and they realized they were naked, so they sewed fig leaves together to make coverings. God confronted them, and they admitted their disobedience.
- Cain's Punishment
-
As a consequence, God cursed Cain, making him a restless wanderer on the earth. God also placed a mark on Cain to protect him from being killed by others.
- Legacy of Cain and Abel
-
The story of Cain and Abel teaches about the consequences of sin, the importance of offering our best to God, and the value of loving and respecting one another.
